Wonder Women – History’s Greatest Trailblazers

Throughout history, there have been women who dared to dream big and do things differently. At Lucky Pants Bingo, we think being bold is something to celebrate, so let’s take a look at some of the gutsiest girls of all time.

Amelia Earhart

Amelia Earhart was simply not going to accept that flight was a man’s game. Well-known for her incredible aviation achievements, her legendary status was sealed when she became the first woman (and only the second person) to fly solo across the Atlantic in 1932. Thanks to her can-do attitude, her legacy of unfaltering determination lives on. She remains a symbol of the power for women all over the world to this day.

Ruth Handler

The original "Boss Barbie" built an empire with her amazing toy doll. Observing her daughter Barbara playing with paper dolls sparked Ruth’s vision to create a 3-D doll for girls. Over 50 years later, Barbie continues to inspire with a line ‘shero’ dolls modeled on trailblazers such as Misty Copeland and Frida Kahlo. Handler herself later became president of Mattel, one of the world’s biggest toy companies, showing she and Barbie could do anything.

Florence Nightingale

Often called “the Lady with the Lamp,” Florence Nightingale is widely known as the founder of modern nursing. The English statistician wrote over 150 books and pamphlets and championed reform on health-related issues. Today, the Florence Nightingale Medal is awarded to nurses who truly go above and beyond.

Cleopatra

Cleopatra is one of the most recognisable women in history, famous not just for her beauty but also for her brains. Despite being a woman, she was the last active pharaoh in Egypt, displaying enormous power and ambition - she even managed to outsmart the Roman Empire. Her legacy still endures today, even in online gaming!

Marie Curie

Marie Curie is the first-ever woman to be awarded a Nobel Prize. But not satisfied with that she went on to win second, becoming the only person in history to win a Nobel Prize in two different fields! Marie developed a love for physics and mathematics through her insatiable appetite for learning. She also performed innovative research into radioactivity, as a phrase that she coined.

There are plenty more world-beating women in the world, with a plucky spirit that we at Lucky Pants Bingo can really get on board with – which ‘rebel with a cause’ do you relate most to?
