What most people love about bingo is that it’s a game of chance. This means no practice needed, no hours studying strategies, no agony, right? That’s what makes it so much fun!
But what if a little old lady walked up to you, looked you dead in the eye and said, “Don’t give me that old story. I know how to play bingo and I’m here to win.”
Well, it would be hard not to take her seriously! With age, comes wisdom, after all—and she isn’t wrong! Although bingo seems based solely on luck, there are, in fact, some ways to boost your chances of winning.
Check them out, right here!
First things first: you gotta be in it to win it, and you can’t be in it if you’ve broken the bank. Our first tip is to manage your spending, and this includes a dedicated online bingo games budget. Once you’ve set aside a certain amount for the month, then you must decide what your limit is for each gaming session.
If you have the time to play every day, then simply take your budget and divide it by the number of days in the month. But if you’re a mild-mannered office manager by day and a bingo-themed superhero by night, then simply divvy up your budget for your free days when you actually have a chance to play.
Do you like to win big? Seems like a dumb question, we know, but hear us out… If you are more of a ‘there can only be one!’ type of person and would rather have a chance at winning a larger prize, then 75 ball bingo, which only has one winner, may be right for you.
On the other hand, if you’re more calculating and don’t mind racking up smaller wins, then 90 ball bingo, which has three prizes, may be a better choice.
Whichever bingo game you choose, make sure you pick the right game that matches your playing style.
Also, if you’re new to the game and want to make the most of your budget, look for games with the right entry fee. You can find games for as little as 1p a game, so you can get the most bang for your buck.
It’s quite simple. The more players there are, the lower your chances of winning. On the other hand, the fewer players in a game, the greater your chance is of taking home the jackpot.
While this may have you thinking that a game of bingo at 4 am doesn’t seem like a bad idea, this strategy isn’t perfect—and not just because no one wants to be up at the crack of dawn! If you’re interested in big jackpots, you may want to check that it isn’t tied to the number of people playing, like most progressive jackpot systems are.
If you don’t, you may want to kick yourself for giving up a few hours of sleep for the chance of a few extra quid.
There’s another simple way to boost your chances of winning at online bingo, and you don’t need to consider a career as a computer hacker to do it. Just increase your odds of winning by buying more cards. As with any lottery-style game, the more cards or tickets you have, the more likely you are to mark off the winning numbers and win. Just don’t forget tip number 1!
If you’re someone who likes 75 ball bingo, you may be interested in the Granville strategy.
And before you ask us, no, Granville is not a town filled with grannies.
The Granville strategy was developed by an American stockbroker and financial writer, Joseph E. Granville. He believed that if you wanted to win, you needed to choose bingo cards that had as many different numbers as possible. But you also needed to balance out the number of even, odd, high, and low values on the card.
Before this sends you into a sky-high, ‘huh?!’, note that the reasoning behind this strategy is pretty straightforward: each time you draw an odd number, you have a greater chance of drawing an even one. And vice versa.
The only catch is that there are so many combinations of numbers, that it’s extremely difficult to use accurately. Still, it’s something that may be useful to keep in mind for most people. As well as any computers who’ve become self-aware and are interested in bingo...
Another strategy that comes from a bit closer to home! English statistician, Leonard Tippett, theorised that you could improve your chances of a win in bingo (we’re all ears!).
He believed that at the start of a game, you were more likely to hit numbers at the extremes. For example, a 1 or a 90. However, as a game plays out, the more likely you are to get closer and closer to the median value, which is 38.
If a winner is decided by simply completing a line of numbers, then it’s more likely that you’ll get numbers at either extreme. However, if you have to complete a more complex pattern to win, the more likely you are to draw numbers around the median.
So basically, for quick games with simple winning patterns, look for cards with lots of high and low numbers. For longer games with more complex winning patterns, look for cards with numbers closer to 38.
But before you put all your bingo balls in Tippett’s basket, while this strategy sounds good, at this point, it’s just a theory.
This may sound obvious, but we all know how easy it is to get distracted by your mates, or how hard it is to concentrate after you’ve had a few pints. If you’re serious about shouting B-I-N-G-O, then you’ll need to focus on calls as they’re made.
Luckily for those of us who enjoy chatting, a few drinks, or both, the best bingo sites have an option to automatically mark off numbers when you play online. So you can chat as much as you want and not have to worry that you’ll miss out on a win!
